Jakarta (VNA) - Indonesian Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno on March 27 revealed that the ministry has readied several plans and increased coordination with regional governments to anticipate a potential surge in the number of tourists during this year's Eid al-Fitr holiday period.

He said the ministry will carry out simulations so that ahead of the festival, the procedures will have been prepared, such as crowd control and the flow of visitors and others.

This year's Eid al-Fitr will be the first long holiday after the COVID-19 pandemic and the revocation of the public activity restrictions (PPKM) in December 2022. Therefore, Uno predicted, the number of tourists will surge during the holiday.

He said that his ministry has coordinated with tourism offices in districts, cities, and provinces as well as authority bodies at each tourism destination to prepare for tourists.

The minister further said that regional governments and tourism authorities will need to immediately improve aspects to support security, safety, and cleanliness during the holiday period.

Uno said that his ministry is improving tourism facilities such as rest areas in mudik (homecoming exodus) routes and mosque-based tourist destinations to attract tourists.

Several tourist destinations for mudik routes have been launched. Last year, the ministry launched a numerous tourism villages, and this year there are several rest areas and mosque-based tourist destinations, the minister added.

The Indonesian government has predicted that there will be 123.8 million tourist trips during the Eid al-Fitr exodus period, which are expected to support the target of achieving 1.4 billion domestic tourist trips this year./.
