Indonesia reports five-year high trade surplus in February

Indonesia posted a 1.14 billion USD trade surplus in February, the biggest monthly surplus for the past five years, the country’s statistics agency BPS.

Jakarta (VNA) – Indonesia posted a 1.14 billion USD trade surplus in February, the biggest monthly surplus for the past five years, the country’s statistics agency BPS.

The surplus was the result of a 7.8 percent hike in export, driven by the processing industry which contributed 8.93 billion USD to total export value.

Meanwhile, imports in the month totalled 10.16 billion USD, down 2.91 percent from January, pulled down by a 10.4 percent decrease in the purchase of machinery and equipment.

However, the import of oil and gas rose 1.72 percent.-VNA
