Hanoi (VNA) - Indonesia and Singapore have been committed to jointly promoting peace, security and stability in the Southeast Asian region, contributing to the world order, said Indonesia's armed forces (TNI) chief General Gatot Nurmantyo.
He made the remark on July 12, on the occasion of a Jakarta visit by commander of the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) Lieutenant General Perry Lim, who was in Indonesia for the 20th Combined Annual Report Meeting - Indonesia-Singapore High Level Committee between the SAF and TNI.
The Singaporean Lieutenant General said he expects bilateral ties to be strengthened, adding that transnational terrorism is an evident threat that both countries must work together to address.
The SAF and TNI’s annual high-level meeting aims to discuss security and defence matters.
Singapore and Indonesia agreed in 2012 to have an overall governing body overseeing bilateral meetings between the two armed forces in the areas of operations, exercises, intelligence, logistics and personnel.
Currently, they are intensifying joint patrol at sea to prevent the intrusion of Islamic State gunmen.-VNA
