Indonesia and Thailand have agreed to set up a joint taskforce to deal with illegal fishing, said Indonesian Foreign Ministry’s spokesperson Arrmanatha Nasir.
The agreement was reached by Indonesian President Joko Widodo and Thai Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha on the sidelines of Asian-Africa Conference in Jakarta, he said.
The Thai leader acknowledged that his country had its own problems with illegal fishing and was cracking down on the trade within its borders, Nasir added.
Since taking office last October, President Widodo has embarked on a hardline campaign against illegal fishing.
