The agreement was reached by IndonesianPresident Joko Widodo and Thai Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha on thesidelines of Asian-Africa Conference in Jakarta, he said.

TheThai leader acknowledged that his country had its own problems withillegal fishing and was cracking down on the trade within its borders,Nasir added.

Since taking office last October, President Widodo has embarked on a hardline campaign against illegal fishing.

Illegal fishing operations in Indonesia cost the country an estimated 20 billion USD in losses annually.-VNA
