Jakarta (VNA) – Indonesian President Joko Widodo on July 31 held a meeting with several ministers in Jakarta to discuss the acceleration of oil and gas production in the country.

After the meeting, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Arifin Tasrif said that the prospects for Indonesia’s oil and gas production are already visible as there are potential new sources of oil and gas, among others, in the Makassar Strait and in Eastern Indonesia.

The results of a geoseismic study in 2020 showed that there are 32,000 km of geoseismic that identify several potential new oil and gas findings, Arifin said.

Indonesia's Special Task Force for Upstream Oil and Gas Business Activities (SKK Migas) said that in the first quarter of this year, Indonesia raised the exploitation to 576,000 barrels of oil per day (BOPD). However, the volume is still lower than the target of 635,000 BOPD set by the country’s 2024 state budget./.
