Jakarta (VNA) – The elite counterterrorism squad Densus 88 of Indonesia’s National Police has foiled a bombing plot in a raid on a university campus in Pekanbaru city of Riau province, according to local police.
Riau’s police chief Nandang said that on June 2, police seized four ready-for-use homemade bombs, bomb-making materials and weapons like a rifle, bows and arrows.
The bombs found in the Riau University campus were as strong as the explosives used by bombers to attack three churches in Surabaya on May 13, killing dozens of civilians.
Nandang added police also arrested three terror suspects in connection with the plot, all of them former students of Riau University.
