Indonesian President listed among world’s most influential Muslims

Indonesian President Joko Widodo has been ranked among the top 20 world’s most influential Muslim figures in the annual publication The Muslim 500 published by the Royal Islamic Strategic Studies Centre based in Jordan.

– Indonesian PresidentJoko Widodo has been ranked among the top 20 world’s most influential Muslimfigures in the annual publication The Muslim 500 published by the Royal IslamicStrategic Studies Centre based in Jordan.

Widodo was ranked 16th in the list, slightlybelow his rank of 13th last year and 11th in both the 2016 and 2015/2014edition.

The Muslim 500 ranks individuals based on thesignificance of their influence or power, be it political, financial orideological, in making contributions to the Muslim world.

Widodo is a political leader with influence over 252 million citizens ofIndonesia, the world's largest Muslim-majority country.

He took office in late October 2014. As thegovernment leader of Indonesia, he has defined the development of the globalmaritime axis as a key foreign policy of the government to protect Indonesia’ssovereignty, reinforce maritime security, tackle piracy in the region andupgrade infrastructure to enhance the country’s status in the world.-VNA
