Indonesian President visits Timor Leste

Jakarta (VNA) – Indonesian President Joko Widodo and his first lady arrived in Dili, Timor Leste for a state visit on January 26, according to the country’s Foreign Ministry.

It is the first visit by Indonesian President Widodo to Timor Leste in a move to strengthen the two nations’ relations and affirm that Indonesia is ready to be a key development partner of its neighbour.

The president is accompanied by the Minister of Economic Affairs, Foreign Minister and Minister of Youth and Sports.

He is scheduled to meet with Timor Leste’s President Taur Matan Ruak and Prime Minister Maria De Araujo. Their discussions will focus on ways to boost cooperation in trade, investment, energy and infrastructure development and speed up the settlement of border issues.

The two sides plan to ink five Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) in the fields of youth and sports; archiving; climate and geophysics; search and rescue; and energy, oil, gas, and natural resources.

Timor Leste became a sovereign state in 2002.-VNA
