Int’l series attracts badminton players from 15 countries, territories

Nearly 200 badminton players from 15 countries and territories will compete at Kawasaki Vietnam International Series 2016, which will kick off in the northern province of Bac Ninh on September 28.

Bac Ninh (VNA) – Nearly 200 badminton players from 15 countries and territories will compete at Kawasaki Vietnam International Series 2016, which will kick off in the northern province of Bac Ninh on September 28.

They come from Vietnam, Thailand, Sweden, the South African Republic, Singapore, New Zealand, Nepal, Malaysia, the Republic of Korea, Japan, Iran, Indonesia, India, the UK and Taiwan (China).

Athletes will take part in men’s and women’s singles, men’s and women’s doubles, and mixed doubles under the direct elimination format. They will vie for prizes totaling 6,000 USD.

Vietnam’s No.1 shuttlers Nguyen Tien Minh and Vu Thi Trang will respectively compete in men’s and women’s singles.

The host country also sends strong players to other events such as Duong Bao Duc and Bao Minh (men’s doubles), Vu Thi Trang and Nguyen Thi Sen (women’s doubles),and Do Tuan Duc and Pham Nhu Thao (mixed doubles).

Le Thanh Sang, Vice Chairman and Secretary General of the Vietnam Badminton Federation – the tourney’s organiser, said through this tournament, players can gain points to reach higher places in the Badminton World Federation rankings.

Kawasaki Vietnam International Series 2016 will last through October 2 and be open to the public for free.-VNA
