Ivory shipment through Cat Lai port investigated

The Sai Gon Habour Gate’s Zone 1 Customs Branch, under Ho Chi Minh City’s Customs Department, has launched an official investigation into the shipment of 1.3 tonnes of ivory.

– The Sai Gon Habour Gate’s Zone 1 Customs Branch, under Ho Chi Minh City’s Customs Department, has launched an official investigation into the shipment of 1.3 tonnes of ivory.

This is the sixth ivory shipment being transported through District 2’s Cat Lai Habour Gate from the beginning of 2017 pending investigation.

On September 6, The Sai Gon Habour Gate’s Zone 1 Customs Branch collaborated with the Ministry of Public Security and HCM City Police to inspect two suspicious containers.

After examining 100 barrels of asphalt, the functional forces found 1.3 tonnes of ivory covered with sawdust and plaster.

The containers of the Empire – Group Company Limited in Phu Nhuan district transited in Vietnam on the way to Cambodia.-VNA
