Jakarta (VNA) – A commuter train collided with a minibus on a level crossing in Indonesia’s capital Jakarta on December 6, killing at least 16 people.
Local media reported that the accident occurred at 8.48 am when the minibus tried to drive past the level crossing despite the train sounded the horn. No one on the train was hurt.
There were 24 people inside the minibus, 16 died including the driver, and the rest are being treated at hospitals, according to Jakarta police spokesman Muhammad Iqbal.
Meanwhile, Transport Ministry spokesman J.A. Barata said a team from the
Ministry and the National Transportation Safety Committee would be deployed to
investigate the cause of the crash.
Traffic accidents are common in Jakarta, where roads are heavily congested and buses and trains are old and badly maintained.-VNA
