Vietnam ’s Hue University of Agriculture and Forestry cooperated with Japan ’s Kyoto University in a project to enhance community adaptation capacity and sustainable livelihood to cope with natural disasters in central Vietnam.
Accordingly, researchers’ team from the two universities have cooperated in carrying out researches into an approach of community-based disaster risk management.
The project was aimed at enhancing capacity, awareness and activities to create sustainable livelihood for three communes in the central province of Thua Thien – Hue.
It contributed to establishing the management board for disaster prevention in Phu Vang commune; helped to supply clean water for environmental sanitation works in the local as well as distributed lifebuoy to the localities in case of disaster.
Under the framework of the cooperation, Kyoto University provided the Vietnamese partner with training in the environment thought offering scholarships and sending experts to Vietnam to carry out the project./.
