Phnom Penh (VNA) – The Japanese Government has pledged assistance worth 182 million USD to help Cambodia upgrade its transport infrastructure and tackle bomb and mine clearance.
The funding is under an agreement signed by Cambodian Minister of Economy and Finance Aun Pornmoniroth and Chief Representative of the Japan Agency for International Cooperation (JICA) Cambodia Office, Itsu Adachi, on March 31.
According to the Cambodian ministry, of the total, 140 million USD will be spent repairing national highway 5 over a distance of 145km, while 30 million USD will be used to upgrade the Chroy Changvar bridge, and the remaining 12 million USD for the second phase of a project on bomb and mine clearance.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Aun Pornmoniroth committed to using the funding on right purposes. He expressed his hope for continued support for Cambodia’s social welfare programmes from the Japanese Government.-VNA
