Acting President of the Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ) Yoshito Sengoku has requested the Vietnamese Government create favourable conditions for Japan ’s long-term investment in Vietnam.
Yoshito Sengoku expressed his impressions of Vietnam ’s socio-economic development at a meeting with Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung in Hanoi on Feb. 25.
Based on the strategic cooperation partnership, mutual understanding and trust, the Vietnam-Japan strategic cooperation will see deeper and more effective development, for common benefit and development of both countries, the DPJ leader said.
He also expressed the wish to cooperate in the exploration and exploitation of rare earth and nuclear-powered electricity generation with Vietnam .
PM Dung welcomed results from a working session between the Ministry of Planning and Investment and the DPJ acting president, affirming his visit would make a practical contribution to bilateral cooperation development.
He wanted Japan to increase its official development assistance to implement projects signed with Vietnam , including the North-South highway and the Hoa Lac high-tech park.
Regarding construction of the nuclear power plant, he said this is a strategic project, so it is necessary to have an agreement between the two governments. He asked both countries’ relevant agencies to engage in discussions to devise the agreement.
He also expressed his wish that the two sides will have long-term cooperation in rare earth exploitation.
The PM asked Japan to simplify visa procedures, creating agreeable conditions for bringing Vietnamese to study, work and visit in Japan./.
