Transport continues to lead the list of recipients of ODA capital from Japan this year, with around 80 billion JPY (780 million USD) poured into the sector in 2013, according to the Ministry of Transport.
As of the end of 2013, a total of 18 transport projects funded by Japanese ODA has been completed and put into operation with investment totalling 2.34 billion USD.
Meanwhile, Japan is also funding 28 under-construction projects valued at 7.42 billion USD, and joining other partners in three others worth 4 billion USD.
To facilitate the absorption of the capital, the ministry has recently put forth a list of 29 transport projects to call for Official Development Assistance (ODA) with a total investment of 470 billion JPY (4.6 billion USD) until 2016.
The projects include several large-scale projects in the fields of urban transport, highways, airports and railroads.
Besides calling for more ODA capital for underway projects, the ministry also names 15 new plans, including the Trung Luong – My Thuan and Nha Trang-Phan Thiet sections of the North-South Expressway, Long Thanh International Airport and a railway route from the inner city of Hanoi to Noi Bai airport.
Priority is given to these works as they are expected to bring great spill-over effects and socio-economic impacts on the country’s development.-VNA
