Labour safety, fire prevention week launched

The 15th annual National Week on Labour Safety, Hygiene and Fire Prevention was launched in northern Bac Giang province on March 17. National Assembly Vice Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan attended the event.

Addressing the event, Minister of Labour, Invalids andSocial Affairs Pham Thi Hai Chuyen reviewed last year’s labour hygieneand safety nationwide. During the period, over 1,400 investigations and1,366 inter-sectoral inspections on the field were conducted across thecountry.

According to the minister, some cities and provinceshave yet to hold any inter-sectoral inspections, like Vinh Long and VinhPhuc.

After the launch ceremony, the Bac Giang provincialFire Prevention Department held an exercise to raise public awareness offire safety in the workplace.

With the theme “Promotinglabour safety culture and measures to prevent industrial accidents,occupational diseases and fires at work”, this year’s event will rununtil March 23.-VNA

Rare green sea turtle released back into the wild in Quang Tri

The green sea turtle (Chelonia mydas), locally known as vich, is a rare and protected species under Vietnamese law. It is also listed by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) as a species of conservation concern and is included in the appendices of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).
