Lao leaders hail cooperation with Vietnam

Party, State and Government leaders of Laos have hailed the effective work of the Inter-Governmental Committee of Laos and Vietnam in boosting the cooperation between the two countries.

Vientiane (VNA) – Party, State and Government leaders of Laos have hailed the effective work of the Inter-Governmental Committee of Laos and Vietnam in boosting the cooperation between the two countries, during their meetings with the head of the committee’s Vietnam section.

Laos’ Party General Secretary and President Chummaly Sayasone, Prime Minister Thoongsing Thammavong and Chairman of the National Assembly Pany Yathotou received Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, Chairman of the Vietnam-Laos sub-c ommittee, in Vientiane ahead of the Inter-Governmental Committee’s 38th session scheduled for December 27.

They affirmed that Laos attaches special importance to the cooperation and special friendship with Vietnam, and expressed their gratitude towards Vietnam’s effective support for Laos in its struggle for national independence in the past and the national building and protection today.

The leaders expressed hope that the Inter-Governmental Committee’s 38th session will be a success, helping driving forward the comprehensive partnership between the two countries.

For his part, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc also made clear that the Party and people of Vietnam give top priority to consolidating the long-standing relations and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos.

He spoke highly of Laos’s successful implementation of the Resolution of the 9th National Congress of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP) and the 7th Five-year National Socio-Economic Development Plan from 2011-2015.

He also briefed Lao leaders on the work of the Vietnam-Laos and Laos-Vietnam Cooperative Sub-committees in 2015 and the main contents to be discussed at the 38 th inter-governmental committee meeting, notably the implementation of the two countries’ cooperative agreements over the past five years and goals for five years ahead.

On the occasion of the committee’s session, Vietnam’s Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs handed over to Laos an orthopedic and rehabilitation centre, which was built at a cost of 48 billion VND, or 2.13 million USD, funded by non-refundable financial aid from Vietnam.-VNA
