Lao news agency highlights VNA support in training reporters, editors

Vientiane (VNA) – General Director SounthonKhanthavong of the Lao news agency KPL highlighted support that the VietnamNews Agency (VNA) has offered to KPL since its establishment, especially intraining of reporters and editors.
 
He praised the VNA assistance at a ceremony in Vientiane on May 9 marking KPL’s50th founding anniversary, which saw the presence of Lao Politburomember and Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith.

At the event, Sounthon Khanthavong recalled the glorioushistory of KPL over the past five decades, saying that 50 years ago, on theoccasion of the 12th founding anniversary of the Lao Patriotic Front(LPF), Prince Souphanouvong, LPF Chairman, signed a decision to establish KPL –the official news agency of Pathet Lao at Phukhe cave gate – the working placeof the Department of the Pictorial News.

Together with the LPF newspaper, Pathet Lao radio stationand the Department of the Pictorial News, KPL was tasked with popularising theLao people’s heroic fight against imperialists to the public at home andabroad. January 6, 1968 marked its first publication.

Lao PM Sisoulith lauded the KPL for fulfilling assigned tasksover the past five decades under the leadership and drastic directions of theParty and State.

He asked KPL staff to raise their sense of responsibilityand self-study to deserve the official news agency of the Lao State, be loyalto the Party and State, and expand news sharing with news outlets of strategic partnersand ASEAN member states.

On the occasion, Lao Minister of Information, Culture andTourism Bosengkham Vongdala presented the noble Isala Order, first class, toKPL in recognition of its important contributions to national liberation andindependence, as well as the current national defence and construction.-VNA

UNFPA, KOICA pledge continued support to Vietnam to eliminate gender-based violence
