Laos again records 4-digit increase in new COVID-19 cases

The Lao Ministry of Health announced on January 14 that the country had recorded 1,052 new cases of COVID-19 and four deaths over the past 24 hours.

Vientiane (VNA) - The Lao Ministry of Health announcedon January 14 that the country had recorded 1,052 new cases of COVID-19 and fourdeaths over the past 24 hours.

The ministry's announcement stated that after a few days ofmaintaining the increase rate at the 3-digit level, the number of new cases inLaos returned to the 4-digit level, 247 cases higher than the figure on the previousday.

The capital city of Vientiane continues to lead the country with 400 cases, followedby Phongsaly province with 102 infections.

At present, the national tally of infections in Laos reaches123,293, including 476 deaths.

The ministry urged people who have not been vaccinated orwant to get a booster shot (third dose) to quickly go to designated hospitalsand medical centres for vaccination.

By the end of January 13, the number of people who receivedthe first jab in Laos reached 63.21 percent of its population, while 51.3percent received the second shot./.
