Laos, Cambodia pledge to enhance business cooperation

Trade promotion agencies of Laos and Cambodia have reaffirmed their commitment to promoting business cooperation, during a recent bilateral meeting in the Lao capital city of Vientiane that was joined by leading Cambodian entrepreneurs.

Hanoi (VNA) – Trade promotion agencies of Laosand Cambodia have reaffirmed their commitment to promoting business cooperation, during a recent bilateral meeting in the Lao capital city of Vientiane that wasjoined by leading Cambodian entrepreneurs.

The meeting, which was held on February 14, was co-chairedby President of the Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry OudetSouvannavong, and President of the Cambodian Chamber of Commerce Neak OknhaKith Meng.

It attracted the participation of more than 30representatives from various sectors of both countries, including trade,services, transportation, real estate, hotel, tourism, finance, constructionand information technology.

At the meeting, the two sides signed a memorandum ofunderstanding (MoU) to review cooperation under another MoU that both sidesinked in 2016.

The new document aims at boosting business activities,especially the exchange of business information and other relevant policies.

The two sides also discussed bilateral trade, investment andthe possibility of business cooperation between Laos and Cambodia, especiallyalong economic corridors running along Cambodia's borders with the Laoprovinces of Champasak, Sekong, Attapeu and Saravan./.

According to the reports, the Lao and Vietnamese Prime Ministers held talks on June 7, during which they briefed each other on their respective internal situations and expressed satisfaction with the socio-economic achievements recorded by the two sides. At least 12 killed, hundreds injured in Philippines earthquake

The port city of General Santos suffered the heaviest damage, with disaster management officials confirming seven fatalities and about 130 injuries after several small buildings collapsed and multiple structures, including a key bridge, sustained severe cracks. The remaining five deaths were recorded in South Cotabato, Davao Occidental and Balut Island.

Laos intensifies business environment reforms

The latest Provincial Facilitation for Investment and Trade Index report indicates that since 2018, the public sector has clearly defined timelines for document approval, reducing the time required to establish a business to just 17 days, including 10 days for the issuance of a business registration certificate, five days for seal engraving, and two days for social insurance registration.
