Vientiane (VNA) – Singapore and Laos inked a memorandum of understanding on education and another on carbon credit as part of Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone’s official visit to the island state on July 9.
The two PMs agreed to continue realising cooperation agreements between the two governments, especially in politics, economy-trade, investment, health care, tourism, renewable energy, rare minerals, agriculture, clean energy, particularly the Laos-Thailand-Malaysia-Singapore power grid project.
Singaporean PM Lawrence Wong pledged to continue assisting Laos in workforce training and the successful hosting of the ASEAN Summit and related meetings during its ASEAN Chairmanship Year 2024.
In October 2023, Laos and Singapore embarked on a bilateral consultation mechanism to monitor and promote sectors of mutual interest.
To date, two-way trade has reached over 182 million USD, with Laos exporting more than 96 million USD worth of goods to Singapore and spending over 86 million USD on imports. Singapore's investment in Laos now stands at 362 million USD across 83 projects./.
