Vientiane (VNA) – Lao Minister of Foreign Affairs Saleumsay Kommasith on August 9 started his two-day visit to Thailand at the invitation of his Thai counterpart Don Pramudwinai, the KPL News reported.

The visit aimed at enhancing the friendly relations and cooperation between the two countries.

During talks between the two ministers in Bangkok on the same day, the pair spoke highly of the longstanding friendly relations and cooperation of the two neighbours.

Both sides agreed to strengthen their cooperation on combating illicit goods and drug smuggling, illegal timber trading, human trafficking and crimes along the common border of the two countries.

They agreed to continue to complete land border demarcation in 14 areas by the end of this year and boundary demarcation on the Mekong and Heung rivers by 2018 as well as intensifying cooperation on economics, trade, investment, goods transit, and the facilitation of the import and export of goods from Laos to third countries.

The two ministers also agreed to enhance cooperation on hydropower, labour, education, basic infrastructure, and the collaboration between border provinces in the two countries and cooperation under the regional and international frameworks, including Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam and Thailand (CLMVT), the Ayeywady-Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy (ACMECS) and ASEAN.-VNA
