Laos will launch eight more hydropower plants in 2015 with a total installed capacity of 2,976 MW, according to the Laos’ Ministry of Energy and Mines.
The eight plants are being built in seven provinces, with two in Attapeu and one each in Xiengkhoang, Luang Prabang, Oudomxay, Sekong, Khammoune and Sayabouli provinces.
To date, Laos has 23 power plants with a total capacity of over 3,200 MW, which generated 16,000 GWh per year for domestic demand and export.
Laos produced 3,495 million KWh in the first quarter of the 2013-2014 fiscal year, up 50.5 percent year-on-year, and exported 2,854 million KWh.-VNA
