Le Quang Liem tops HDBank International Open Chess Cup

Top Vietnamese chess player Le Quang Liem became the champion of the for the third time at the seventh HDBank International Open Chess tournament 2017 which closed in Ho Chi Minh City on March 17.

HCM City (VNA) – Top Vietnamese chess player Le Quang Liem became thechampion for the third time at the seventh HDBank International OpenChess tournament 2017 which closed in Ho Chi Minh City on March 17.

The 25-year-old Liem, with an Elo rating of 2,712, is No.2 seed at the event.He was crowned champion after beating Bogdanovic Stanislav from Ukraine in astrained match, and won a prize worth 13,000 USD.

Liem won the tournament in 2013 and 2015.

In addition to awards presented to top 25 chess players, the organising boardalso gave prizes to excellent female player and excellent young player.

The HDBank International Open Chess tournament, taking place from March 12-17,drew the participation of 240 chess players from 25 countries and territoriesworldwide, including some strong ones like Russia, Bulgaria, China, Ukraine,Germany and India.-VNA
