AnGiang (VNA) – The trade union of the Mekong Delta province of An Giangon July 2 presented 500 schoolbags that can be used as lifebuoys to local studentsin flood-prone areas.

Vicechairwoman of the provincial trade union Phan Thi Diem said the schoolbagpresentation programme has been sponsored by the Joint Stock Commercial Bankfor Foreign Trade of Vietnam (Vietcombank) for four years.

Thisyear, the bank allocated 100 million VND (4,300 USD) for the programme,benefiting children in An Phu, Chau Thanh and Phu Tan districts and Tan Chautownship.

The schoolbags are practical for students in the flood-prone localities as theyhelp mitigate drowning risks for children during the flood season, she said.

Lastyear, local authorities worked to ensure safety for nearly 2,000 students goingto school, most of whom lived in border An Phu district and Tan Chau township.In addition, some 3,600 people were mobilised to join the search and rescueoperations in the province.-VNA

Phu Tho: 200kg bomb safely relocated, detonated

According to a report by the Phu Tho Military Command, local residents spotted the bomb on August 31 in the Da River after the river water receded, exposing it beneath mud and soil on the riverbed. The bomb remained intact, including its fuse, and was located about 300m from a residential area.
