Poor households living along the coastline in Thua Thien-Hue province have been provided with disaster-resilient houses, under a project between the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the UN Development Programme (UNDP) towards improving the resilience of vulnerable coastal communities to the impacts of climate change in Vietnam.

The central province of Thua Thien-Hue fulfilled its target of providing 135 disaster-resilient houses for beneficiaries in 2018. Phu Loc district finished on top with 50 households having been provided with new houses, thanks to its sound communications work and careful planning.

The deliverance of disaster-resilient households to disadvantaged locals is spoken of highly by authorities at the central level, the UNDP, and experts as it has drawn the full participation of local authorities at all levels.

The project is warmly welcomed by both local authorities and people. Once the locals settle into their new homes, they can then spend more time on improving their livelihoods. –VNA
