Locally-made products have won consumers’ tastes thanks to the five-year-old “Vietnamese prioritise Vietnamese goods” campaign.
The provincial and municipal departments of industry and trade have actively organised trade fairs and exhibitions across the country to popularise Vietnamese goods, especially among locals in the remote areas, said deputy head of the Trade’s Domestic Market Department Le Viet Nga at a conference in Hanoi on July 3.
Such events have seen more than 53,000 businesses showcasing their products at 48,000 pavilions, drawing over 3 million residents as well as large crowds from neighbouring countries such as Laos and Cambodia, Nga added.
She noted that the Ministry of Industry and Trade has approved a total of 618 national trade promotion projects, including 356 ones targeting markets in the mountainous, coastal and border areas.
Deputy General Director of the Vietnam National Textile and Garment Group (Vinatext) Hoang Ve Dung said the group’s retail markets are omnipresent in the country, numbering 4,125 in the previous year, up 4 percent against 2012 and expected to reach 4,286 by the year’s end.
Chairman of the supermarket chain Saigon Co.op Nguyen Ngoc Hoa revealed that Vietnamese goods account for 90 to 95 percent of the domestic market.
Recently, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has approved a project on domestic market development, which is linked with the campaign for the 2014-2020 period, aiming to increase the proportion of Vietnamese goods in the nationwide distribution channels to over 80 percent.-VNA
