Malaysia arrests 164 illegal immigrants in capital

Malaysia’s Immigration Department announced that authorities arrested 164 illegal immigrants in a raid on an entertainment centre in Jalan Loke Yew, Kuala Lumpur, on September 27.

Kuala Lumpur (VNA) – Malaysia’s Immigration Department announced that authorities arrested 164 illegal immigrants in a raid on an entertainment centre in Jalan Loke Yew, Kuala Lumpur, on September 27.

Four managers of the centre were also detained on charges of recruiting and harbouring these people.

Kuala Lumpur Immigration Department Director Wan Mohamed Saupee Wan Yusoff said the raid started at 11.45pm on September 27 and ended at 1.30am the next day. Those arrested were aged between 21 and 60.

The raid was conducted following two weeks of intelligence over complaints from the public about the entertainment centre, which is located inside a shopping mall.

In another operation conducted at 10pm on Jalan Bukit Bintang and Jalan Alor, Kuala Lumpur the same day, authorities arrested 17 foreigners for hawking in the area. The foreigners, aged between 20 and 30, will be taken to the detention centre in Bukit Jalil./.
