Kuala Lumpur (VNA) – Malaysian authorities have arrested nearly 48,000 undocumented foreign workers in 2016, according to a statement by the Malaysian parliament.
The labourers were seized during hunting campaigns by the Immigration Department, Royal Police and National Registration Department of Malaysia from January 1 to December 6, reported Malaysian Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Masir Kujat at the parliament.
He said that local authorised agencies conducted 10,184 hunting campaigns and inspected 164,416 people. A total 1,105 employers were arrested and 24 intermediary agencies were also handled during the year, he added.-VNA
