Kuala Lumpur (VNA) – The Kuala Lumpur court has sentenced a Malaysian artist to 12 years in prison for taking part in the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS) in Syria.

Malaysian anti-terrorism police arrested Fauzee Ahmad, in October 2014, one month after the 48-year-old man returned to Malaysia from Syria.

Fauzee was charged with participating in activities of the extremist group in Syria from June 29 to September 18, 2014.

Malaysian authorities closely follow and capture IS supporters in Malaysia.

Police estimate that nearly 100 Malaysians have arrived in Syria and Iraq to fight for IS.-VNA
