- The Malaysian government is considering the possibility of introducing a stimulus programme to spur economic growth, Second Finance Minister Datuk Johari Abdul Ghani said.

The action is still in the preliminary phase as the government is going through a consultation process, he said during the 31st National Economic Briefing of the Malaysian Institute of Economic Research (MIER) on July 26.

Earlier, Johari said, he was optimistic over the nation’s economy, with steady and consistent growth in the first quarter of 2016, of a moderate 4.2 per cent.

Statistics show that the private sector has been cautious in their investments, the official said, adding that low labour productivity and population changes may also impact the sustainable development of the nation.

According to Johari, the global and national economic situations are expected to create more challenges for Malaysia in the long run.-VNA
