Kuala Lumpur (VNA) ― Malaysia’s proposal to form a global-level secretariat to combat terrorism was unanimously agreed to at the Counter-Terrorism International Convention held in Bali, Indonesia, on August 10.
Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the strong backing of the proposal was international recognition for the country’s efforts to counter terrorism at a global level.
Interpol would be responsible for the secretariat and the proposal would be tabled at the United Nations General Assembly soon, according to Zahid.
Malaysia was prepared to work together in establishing a Standard Operating Procedure for the secretariat, he said.-VNA
