Kuala Lumpur (VNA) – Malaysian PrimeMinister Mahathir Mohamad said the Klang Valleymass rapid transit line 3 (MRT 3 or Circle Line) project which costs between 40billion RM and 45 billion RM, will not proceed, according to The Star.

The MRT3 or MRT Circle Linewas planned as the third MRT line for the Greater Klang Valley area in KualaLumpur.

While the MRT1 connectsSungai Buloh and Kajang, the MRT2, which is now under construction, will runfrom Sungai Buloh to Serdang and Putrajaya.

On May 28, the PM said a planned high-speed railway, which wassigned at the end of 2016 under the reign of former PM Najib Razak toconnect  Kuala Lumpur and Singapore, willbe axed.

He explained that the move aims to reduce nationaldebt which exceeds 1 trillion RM (252 billion USD), equivalent to 80.3 percentof the country’s GDP.

PM Mahathir said the Malaysian Government is negotiatingwith the Chinese side on articles of another railway project worth 14 billionUSD which runs from theThai border in the east with the strategic shipping routes of the Straits of Malacca inthe west.

 He estimates thatMalaysia could cut almost a fifth of its 250  billionUSD billion national debt.

According to New Straits Times, the PM announced that his administrationis expected to reduce the national debt, from more than 1 trillion RM to 800billion RM through various approaches, including dissolving some agenciesaltogether. -VNA

Indonesia’s meat industry faces risk of mass layoffs

The Indonesian Meat Entrepreneurs and Processors Association (APPDI) said the total beef import quota for private companies this year has been cut to 30,000 tonnes, down sharply from 180,000 tonnes in 2025.
