Kuala Lumpur (VNA) – Malaysia and Singapore signed a deal on December 13 to build a high-speed railway linking their capital cities of Kuala Lumpur and Singapore.

The signing of the deal took place at the 7th Malaysia-Singapore Leaders' Retreat in Putrajaya, Malaysia, witnessed by the host country’s Prime Minister Najib Razak and his Singaporean counterpart Lee Hsien Loong.

The 350-kilometre railway is expected to enhance connection between the two countries. As travel time will be reduced to 90 minutes, the project also has influence on various fields, including business and people-to-people relations.

Singapore is the second largest trade partner of Malaysia and two-way trade hit 59.5 billion USD in 2015.-VNA
