Kuala Lumpur (VNA) – The Immigrant Department of Malaysia will freeze assets of companies that hire illegal foreign workers, starting from October 1, local newspaper “The Star” reported.

Mustafar Ali, Director General of the Department, on September 13 said that the issue is not new as the country’s law has a provision allowing the department to carry out the act although this had not been fully enforced yet.

Mustafar said the department had discussed the matter with legal advisers, however, he does not want the public to get shocked.

He expressed hope that media can replay the message to the public, helping to create awareness, as well as inform employers of the consequences they face when they hire or protect illegal foreign workers.-VNA
