Kuala Lumpur (VNA) – Malaysian police have increased the level of vigilance before terrorist threats from elements under the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS) in Indonesia.
The information came after these elements had called for and given instructions to carry out attacks in the Southeast Asian region, including Malaysia.
Speaking to the press at the International Association of Counterterrorism and Security Professionals (IACSP) held in Kuala Lumpur on September 7, Head of Malaysia’s Counter Terrorism Division Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said Bahrun Nin, leader of the terrorist group, owns a significant fund, allowing them to carry out large-scale attacks.
Two IS suspects in Indonesia namely Bahrun Nain and Abu Jandal have actively instructed their supporters to conduct attacks, he added.
Malaysia has discovered and stopped 13 terrorist plots in the country and arrested 239 suspects in the past years. The nearest case was the arrest of three people who planned terrorist attacks on Malaysia’s Independent Day, August 31.-VNA
