Kuala Lumpur (VNA) – About 67,000 taxi drivers in Malaysia will get fuel cards worth 800 RM (over 200 USD) each, Prime Minister Najib Razak announced on April 13.
According to the local online newspaper The Star, the cards are launched through the 1Malaysia Taxi Drivers Welfare Card which carries a value of 53.6 million RM.
The fuel cards will be distributed by the Land Public Transport Commission to each taxi driver so that they can purchase petrol or natural gas at Petronas stations nationwide.
Najib said he hopes the cards will help Malaysia’s taxi drivers reduce the daily cost of operation and increase their income.
Malaysia recorded economic growth of 5.8 percent in 2017, higher than expected. The World Bank and International Monetary Fund forecast the Southeast Asian country’s economy could expand by 5.2 percent this year.-VNA
