Consistent buying of penny stocks led to a fourth day of increases in the VN-Index, which rose 0.91 percent.
The index closed on May 27 at 497.16 points, with 135 out of 231 listed stocks on the HCM City bourse posting gains. Among the penny stocks that hit the ceiling were Vietnam Mechanisation Electrification & Construction Co (MCG), which rose 4.99 percent and Transport Engineering Construction & Business Investment Co No 584 (NTB), which posted a 4.98 percent gain.
However, the value of the day’s trade stayed low at 1.37 trillion VND ( 72.1 million USD), with a total 41.4 million shares changing hands. Saigon Securities Inc (SSI) was the most active, gaining 4.53 percent on a trade of 1.7 million shares.
The HNX-Index in Hanoi rose for the second day, gaining 0.22 percent, to close the day on 159.83 points. Trading activities were slow with just 31.2 million shares, totalling at 978.1 billion VND (51.5 million USD), changing hands.
Foreign investors bought a net 2.58 million shares, worth 124.5 billion VND (6.5 million USD) on both exchanges combined./.
