A measles epidemic is likely to spread due to the humid and cold weather and the increasing in travel at the beginning of the year, head of the Health Ministry’s General Department of Preventive Medicine, Tran Dac Phu, has warned.
According to the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology and the Pasteur Institute in Ho Chi Minh City, over 620 cases were reported showing signs of measles from the beginning of 2014 to February 5.
Of the number, 30 cases were recorded in Hanoi, 138 in Ho Chi Minh City, 120 in Lao Cai province and 80 in Son La province. Yen Bai province recorded 253 measles patients and one death.
Most of the patients have not been fully vaccinated against measles.
The general department on February 8 ordered all provinces to intensify measles prevention measures and detect, quarantine and treat infected patients.
They were also asked to publicise the vaccination available for children.-VNA
