Hanoi (VNA) – The National Election Committee held a press conference in Hanoi on May 20 to update domestic and foreign media about preparations for the May 22 election of deputies to the 14th National Assembly and all-level People’s Councils for 2016-2021.

NA Secretary General and Chairman of the NA Office Nguyen Hanh Phuc said the committee has so far basically concluded preparations for the election day, meeting its schedule.

Phuc, who is also chief of the Office of the National Election Committee, said there are 91,476 polling stations with over 69.2 million voters nationwide.

After May 2, many localities held meetings between voters and candidates in a democratic and open manner, during which candidates presented their plans of action and directly answered questions to the local media.

Election canvassing will end no later than 7am of May 21.

As of May 20, a number of areas in the central province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau, Khanh Hoa, Quang Nam, Quang Binh, Quang Ngai and Nghe An, the northern province of Lai Chau and the Central Highlands province of Dak Lak held early voting, Phuc said.-VNA
