Mekong Delta rice exports up 18 percent

The Mekong Delta exported 670,000 tonnes of rice in the first two months of 2013.
The provinces in the Mekong Delta exported 670,000 tonnes of rice in the first two months of 2013, generating 304 million USD in revenue – an 18 percent increase in value compared to the same period last year.

Asia is the region’s largest market, with 65 percent of consumption, followed by America, Africa, Europe and Oceania .

The price of the grain has increased to 5,200 – 5,300 VND per kilogram due to the temporary store purchasing policy.

The Mekong Delta expects to export between 6.5 and 6.8 million tonnes of rice in 2013.

To achieve its goal, the region will promote the development of its agricultural service system for rural areas and apply new advanced biotechnologies in selection and breeding.

In addition, it will expand the production of high quality rice to meet world market demand.-VNA
