The Ministry of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA) is directing the incorporation of vocational training for people with disabilities into national target programmes on employment to provide a strong support for vocational training for those disadvantaged people.
The information was unveiled by Deputy Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs Nguyen Trong Dam at a ceremony in Hanoi on April 17 to honour disabled employees and businesses operating for the disabled.
Dam said his ministry is screening the existing vocational training mechanism toward a more flexible one with closer cooperation between domestic and foreign businesses to better the effectiveness of vocational training and job creation for people with disabilities.
At the event, the MoLISA official highly valued the US Government, the Vietnam Assistance for the Handicapped (VNAH), and the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) for their joint practical initiatives to generate jobs for disabled people.
VCCI Deputy Chairman Pham Gia Tuc said that since September 2007, the chamber has coordinated with VNAH and the US Agency for International Development (USAID) to establish the Blue Ribbon Employer Council (BREC), which provides technical assistance for employers which recruit people with disabilities.
From its initial 25 businesses and organisations in and outside the country, the BREC has by far had 160 members, creating stable jobs for over 2,000 disabled people nationwide.
The council also provides consultancy for job placement and vocational training centres on job skills required by employers.
In response to the Vietnam Day for People with Disabilities (April 18), the southern province of Binh Dinh, home to more than 32,000 disabled people and orphans, on April 17 praised 31 orphans and households with disabled members, who have surmounted difficulties to better their lives.
Meanwhile, disabled children in the Central Highlands province of Kon Ton have a chance to play games and speak out their dreams at a two-day festival, which also kicked off on April 17.
A wide range of activities took place in central Da Nang city on April 16 to help the disabled integrate deeper into society.-VNA
