The Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) and Malaysia’s Janakuasa company on April 7 agreed a 1.5 billion USD deal to construct the Duyen Hai 2 thermal power plant.
The plant, will be built in Duyen Hai district, Tra Vinh province, starting in 2011. It is expected to become operational in 2014 or 2015 with a capacity of 1,200 MW.
The project will be implemented under the build-operate-transfer mode.
The newly-signed Memorandum of Understanding provides a foundation for both sides to start negotiations on relevant contracts, including an electricity purchase deal.
Janakuasa is Malaysia’s leading company in energy production. The company opened its representative office in Hanoi in September 2009 to prepare for its long-term investment plan in Vietnam./.
