Mong Hoa ethnic people’s embroidery, wax painting on display

A recent event in Hanoi showcased the traditional embroidery and wax drawing of the Mong Hoa people from Dien Bien province. The display featured live demonstrations by artisans, providing an immersive cultural experience for attendees.

At the event, sister-artisans Giang Thi May and Giang Thi May demonstrated embroidering and wax painting skills to make traditional costumes of Mong Hoa ethnic people in Dien Bien province.

Unlike other branches of Mong ethnicity that use white fabric, Mong Hoa artisans work on blue fabric, which is then dyed dark indigo. This results in a subtle yet sophisticated visual effect.

The traditional Mong Hoa skirt is composed of three main parts: the top section made of wax-dyed indigo linen, the middle section adorned with a combination of cross-stitch and appliqué embroidery, and colorful, intricate patterns meticulously sewn together.

In addition to watching, attendees were able to practice embroidery and wax drawing techniques under the guidance of artisans. This made many visitors, especially the youth, excited with interesting experiences./.
