The local authorities of Cambodia’s northern Preah Vihear province on May 28 held a ceremony to hand over and repatriate 37 remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers who died in Cambodia during the past war.
The event saw the presence of Preah Vihear Governor Um Mara and Chairman of the People’s Committee of Central Highlands Gia Lai province Pham The Dung.
Cambodian monks also came here to pray for the peace of the martyrs’ souls before their remains were brought home.
On the occasion, the Gia Lai provincial People’s Committee donated money to build a monument to martyrs who were members of the Vietnam-Cambodia fighting alliance in Preah Vihear province.
Since 2005, Gia Lai province’s search team, in coordination with the Preah Vihear authorities and people, has repatriated 445 remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers who laid down their lives in this area.-VNA
