More seafood businesses get ASC certificate

Five more Vietnamese tra fish producers and processors have won the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC)’s aquaculture production certificate since the beginning of this year.
Five more Vietnamese tra fish producers and processors have won the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC)’s aquaculture production certificate since the beginning of this year.

According to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), the certificate winners include the Docifish Corporation, the Go Dang Food Joint stock Company (Godaco), the To Chau Joint stock Company, Hung Ca Co., Ltd and the Nha Trang Seafood Joint stock Company (NTSF).

So far, 13 local seafood businesses have been awarded the ASC certificate, which will enable Vietnamese tra fish to go farther globally.

To receive the certification, a tra fish producer or a breeder must meet or exceed the minimum standards on environment and society, such as land and water usage, water pollution and waste management, genetics and biodiversity, feed and health management, veterinary medicines and chemicals, and social accountability.

ASC was founded in 2010 by the Worldwide Fund for Nature (WWF) and the Dutch Sustainable Trade Initiative (IDH).-VNA
