The respect-paying service for General Vo Nguyen Giap was held in Ho Chi Minh City and his home province of Quang Binh from 7.30 am on October 12 at the same time with that in Hanoi in an atmosphere of solemnity and great emotion.
From early morning, thousands of mourners from Ho Chi Minh City and other southern localities flocked to the City’s Thong Nhat Hall to pay tribute to the General, who passed away at the age of 103 on October 4.
Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Le Hoang Quan led a Ho Chi Minh City delegation to start the respect-paying service.
Next to pay tribute were delegations of Ho Chi Minh City-based central agencies, including the Office of the Party Central Committee, the Government Office, the Government Inspectorate and others.
They were followed by delegations of many local agencies and organisations.
In the central province of Quang Binh, delegations of the provincial Party Committee, People’s Council and People’s Committee and other local agencies and organisations together with family members and people gathered at the office of the provincial People’s Committee from early morning to pay respect to General Giap despite heavy rain.
The respect-paying service for General Giap started at 7.30 am in a solemn and emotional atmosphere.
A delegation of the Khammuane province of Laos to the respect-paying service was led by the Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee.-VNA
