Hanoi (VNA) – The Myanmar Government announced on November 20 the formation of a union-level Joint Ceasefire Monitoring Committee (JCMC) to implement the Nationwide Ceasefire Accord (NCA) signed by the government and eight ethnic armed groups.

According to the country’s Union Peace Making Work Committee (UPWC), the JCMC, led by Lieut. Gen. Yar Pyae, includes representatives from the government and the eight ethnic armed groups as well as six civilian representatives.

As part of the peace process, Myanmar is also trying to form a trilateral Union Peace Dialogue Joint Committee (UPDJC) with representatives from the government, ethnic armed groups and political parties to start drafting a framework for dialogues.

Earlier on October 15, the NCA was signed by the Myanmar Government and eight out of 15 ethnic armed groups. The two sides were set to draw up a political framework within 60 days after the formal NCA signing and start a political dialogue within 90 days.-VNA
