Myanmar holds 19th ASEAN information sub-committee meeting

Hanoi (VNA)– The 19th meeting of the Sub-committee on Culture and Information(SCI) of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is taking place in Myanmar'sYangon, seeking to outline future work of the bloc’s information sector.

The two-day meeting,opened on March 6, also screened and discussed the decisions of the ASEANSummit meetings.

Myanmar Minister ofInformation Dr. Pe Myint was quoted by Xinhua as saying that he hailed thedevelopment of programs and dissemination of information on the benefit andopportunities offered by the ASEAN Community.

He underlined the need to promote mutual respect and appreciation of diversityin line with the ASEAN Strategic Plan for Information and Media (2016-2025).

ASEAN nations shouldalso promote a culture of media pluralism and socially responsible media increating a peaceful, people-centered, dynamic and outward looking communitywith the collaboration of government-to-government, government-to-business andASEAN dialogue partners, he noted.

The nations should make efforts to strengthen the information sector of thebloc, he said, emphasizing the need for all of them to support each other inimplementing the respective national communication plans as well as the ASEANSocio-Cultural Community Blueprint 2025 and the ASEAN strategic Plan forInformation and Media Plan (2016-2025).-VNA
