Hanoi (VNA) – The Government of Myanmar and ethnic armed groups signed a total of 33 agreements after the second meeting of the 21st Century Panglong Peace Conference was wrapped up in May 29.

Lieut. General Yar Pyae, vice chairman of the Union Peace Dialogue Joint Committee (UPDJC), described the peace talks as very productive.

“We are very pleased because we have never had results in previous talks. We have agreed on 37 points, which is a progress,” he said.

State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi urged the participants to make more steps in future talks.

Differences in perspectives of the parties to the peace dialogues were exposed during the conference, she said, admitting that finding a common voice would not be easy.

Parties to the talk have taken another step along the path of pursuing peace at the conference. The conclusion of this meeting marks a beginning of their next step towards a peaceful democratic federal union, she noted.

Regarding political issues, the parties agreed on 12 points but left eight others for discussion at the next conference slated for the end of this year.-VNA
